To take part in the World Solar Challenge 2017, students from Singapore Polytechnic were tasked to design and build a solar-powered car that had the stamina to traverse 3,000km across the unforgiving Australian outback, from Darwin to Adelaide, where temperatures fluctuated from single digits to 40°C within a single day. Given the limited time that the students had to design and build a working model and prototype, Singapore Polytechnic chose SOLIDWORKS which not only required a short learning curve due to its user-friendliness, but also allowed the team to test, innovate and accurately document all specifications for subsequent prototypes and improvements. Thanks to SOLIDWORKS, SUNSPEC is set to be the prototype for Singapore’s solar-powered car of the future.
