In 1954, a cooperative shoe company that was later set up by Pandit Nehru was facing closure. During this time of crisis, Shri PD Gupta took this company under his wing and he trained in one of the most successful establishments in the shoe industry we know today: the Liberty.
Liberty dominated the men's sandals section in India. Its vision was extended to new horizons and the next target was set: to give Indian buyers a wide range of products with the latest innovation. This led to a partnership with Hungary in 1964.What came out of this partnership was ahead of its time. That same year, Liberty pocketed its first export order for 50,000 pairs of shoes from Czechoslovakia. In a decade, freedom was graduated from being the best shoe company in India to become a global phenomenon.
