The fundamental principle of RHTC magnetic sheet metal folding machines is based on electromagnetic clamping. This magnetic clamping is applied precisely where it needs to be generated, so that the forces do not have to be transferred through the structure from the ends of the machine. As a result, the clamping beam does not require a heavy structure, and the machine can therefore be much more compact and lighter. The thickness of the clamping bar is determined only by the need to carry enough magnetic flux, not by structural considerations.

The unique centerless compound hinges, specially developed for MB machines, models MB 1250 - 3200, are distributed along the length of the bending beam and, like the clamping bar, take up bending loads close to where they are generated. The combined effect of the magnetic clamping means and the special centerless hinges makes the MB machine very space-saving, with an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio.
