A new high-performance industrial robot optimized for the machining of foundry parts, from ABB France - Robotics Division
Sunday, May 4, 2008Description :
This heavy duty industrial robot IRB 6660 has been developed for demanding applications such as finishing and machining of foundry parts, it offers a very high level of rigidity and robustness.

The manipulator arm of the IRB 6660 has been designed to achieve the highest possible mechanical stiffness, which gives it high accuracy and enables it to work with short cycle times, thus increasing productivity. It is to this day the most rigid 6-axis polyarticulated robot on the market. Its range of action is 1.93 m and its carrying capacity of 205 kg.

Rigid, the IRB 6660 is nonetheless a reliable and precise robot (repeatability of positioning of 0,07 mm) able to provide a constant quality even during the important and fluctuating forces of a demanding process. Simple to install and maintain, it is also secured thanks to its specific protection against chips.

Optimized for pre-machining:

The IRB 6660 is perfectly suited for applications involving external forces such as cleaning and pre-machining operations. Everything has been designed and manufactured for situations where the stability of the robot and its rigidity are key factors: mechanical structure with parallelogram, compact and resistant arm, assembly in clevis of axes 2 and 3, reducers and powerful motors.

The IRB 6660 must meet one of the latest challenges in robotic finishing and machining: non-homogeneity of molded parts. This problem of homogeneity leads to unpredictable and variable forces on the robot, which has the consequence of affecting the quality of the product. The IRB 6660 perfectly knows how to manage the variable process forces that are common in milling and deburring applications.
