Secure Data Transfer in Industry 4.0's Moving Applications with Igus CAT7 Ethernet Technology
Thursday, October 15, 2015Description :
In the factory of the future, ultra dynamic machines communicate permanently with each other in real time. A communication that requires of course a fast and safe transmission of energy and data. On the Hannover Fair, igus has presented professionals with particularly innovative and versatile cables for applications in smart factories. Products also linked to a promise, that of "36 months guarantee from the first meter. "

In order for the vision of the plant of the future to become a reality, real-time communication between all levels must be guaranteed. And so that all these levels can exchange their data among themselves, factories are increasingly using Ethernet cables. Their use is not limited to fixed installations, but installations in motion are particularly demanding. For these, igus offers 23 types of copper-based Ethernet cables, all designed exclusively for constant movement in industrial environments while being mechanically adapted to the most varied requirements.

CAT7 Ethernet technology for constant motion

On its stand at the Hanover Fair, igus presented its new CAT7 CFBUS.052 cable. In order to make data transmission even safer, it offers braided shielding, shielding in pairs as well as braided general shielding with a 90% optical coverage that ensures proper operation of the cable even after millions of cycles Bending in the cable chains. The special structure of strands and strands makes the CFBUS cable resistant to repeated bending. "A braided shield at an optimized angle protects the general shielding from mechanical breaks while improving the electromagnetic compatibility of the cable," explains Benoit Melamed, chainflex Cables Project Manager at igus France. "The shielded pairs are stranded at an optimized step length so as to be able to cope with the high mechanical stresses while meeting the electrical requirements related to the data transmission. "This CAT7 cable is flame retardant like all CFBUS cables in TPE and highly resistant to abrasion. It is also certified UL / CSA, EAC, IEC, DNV GL and CTP and is DESINA compliant. It can also be used in clean rooms.

With fiber optic, communicate without interference in applications with high demands over virtually infinite distances

The 100% fiber optic interference protection and additional data capability make it particularly attractive for data transmission in the electrically and mechanically critical sectors of Industry 4.0. The range of optical fiber cables, which has also been developed for constant motion applications, covers all types of mechanical stress. Igus offers, for example, the CFLG.2EC series, a range of economical fiber optic cables intended for indoor applications in handling, woodworking or packaging machines, for example, while the CFROBOT5 range allows safe communication Robot in a three-dimensional medium. Igus also presented in Hanover the chainflex cable CFLG.LB.PUR, a special fiber optic cable for constant motion applications in the off-shore sector and on ships. This cable is available now with 2, 4 or 6 fibers or with 2 optical fibers and 2 supply conductors. The multimode or monomode fibers braided with one another are produced in the form of strands which are particularly resistant to bending and which can be produced easily and inexpensively with connectors without complex preparation. The particularly resistant aramid (Kevlar) braiding on the entire stranding allows even the high tensile forces generated in suspended applications to be absorbed without the cable being damaged. The extruded PUR outer sheath, adapted to the requirements of the cable chains and flame retardant, offers additional protection against external mechanical stresses. The new line of optical fiber cables, like the CAT7 cable, is offshore DNV GL, allowing it to transmit data securely to offshore platforms and ships.

Igus now offers a 36-month warranty on all cables from the first meter ordered.
