Alfa Laval Tantalum: a new exchanger for corrosive applications
Saturday, August 2, 2014Description :
This new heat exchanger has been specifically developed to meet the requirements of applications using hot and highly corrosive liquids

Alfa Laval Tantalum exchangers are stainless steel heat exchangers that have undergone a specific treatment in which a thin layer of tantalum is deposited on all surfaces exposed to the corrosive fluid (s). The applied treatment is not a simple coating but a metallurgical bond between tantalum and steel. The result is an exchanger with maximum resistance to corrosion and high mechanical strength. With a low investment cost, this technology is accessible to a wide range of corrosive applications.

These heat exchangers have been specifically developed for applications using hot and highly corrosive liquids. The tantalum surface layer allows operation with fluids up to 225 ° C. Unlike exchangers with high quality alloys, Alfa Laval Tantalum exchangers can withstand a mixture of fluids with concentration variations.

A last but not insignificant asset: reduced maintenance costs. The high resistance to corrosive fluids and a robust design minimize the need for maintenance operations. The only operation that is required is a Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedure if the exchanger is used for a fouling application. As the core of the exchanger is made of stainless steel, Alfa Laval Tantalum also offers high mechanical strength. This robust design provides better thermal shock resistance than glass, silicon carbide and graphite heat exchangers
