High torques can cause serious problems when installing large shaft couplings, especially when space is limited. That is why Mayr has equipped the high-torque ROBA-DS steel coupling with an easy-to-assemble positive-locking conical connection, which operates with extremely low tightening torques. The five construction sizes of this range cover a range of nominal torques from 22,000 to 110,000 Nm.

The handling of large couplings is complex and should therefore be simplified as much as possible for technicians. Moreover, the ease of assembly of the large couplings also has an economic dimension. Many hours and unnecessary expenses can be saved with a simple and fast assembly system.

In the case of the ROBA-DS with conical connection, the flexible lamella package is connected, via positive locking with clearance, to fastening components such as hubs, flanges and sleeves. Tapered-end bolts are inserted into the tapered holes of the fasteners by means of clamping screws, and the flanged bushings of the bundle of flaps are tightened. Because of this conical shape, the forces generated extend the collar rings and fasteners in a radial and flexible manner, which ensures the connection without play of the pack of lamellae.

 

Screwing torques greatly reduced

The new conical connection reduces the screwing force to a fraction of that of conventional friction locking systems, greatly simplifying installation and disassembly. Also, the aggregates do not need to be moved for installation and uninstallation.

The ROBA-DS all-steel couplings are extremely robust. They are resistant to extreme temperatures and torsional deformations and do not require any maintenance. They transmit the torque without play and without wear and compensate the problems of axial, angular and radial alignment of the trees.

On two-joint systems this component permits extremely flexible length variations between the two slat packs for adjustment as a function of shaft play. The lamella pack couplings are perfectly suited for applications with high torques due to their remarkable characteristics. The hubs and sleeves specific to each customer guarantee a high level of flexibility.
