Sandvik Coromant launches a reinforced version of its CoroDrill® 880 indexable insert drill bit for greater production savings in large hole drilling applications. The new CoroDrill 880 drill body is compatible with a variety of insert shades based on Sandvik Coromant's new Zertivo ™ technology that provides optimized edge safety.
The reinforced version of CoroDrill 880 represents a breakthrough in the evolution of the Coromant U drills. The drill body is up to 30% stiffer than previous versions and allows applications of four to five times the diameter. The drilling operations are more reliable and the quality of the holes is better. In addition, the new Sandvik Coromant chain for drilling steel and cast iron offers a much longer service life in combination with new drill bits.
A customer who manufactures wind turbine crowns has tried the new CoroDrill 880 drill bit to drill holes five times the diameter. With the old drill body, the size of the holes in the 42CrMo4 gradually decreased over time. With the new CoroDrill 880 reinforced, the hole size remains correct for longer. In addition, tool life is 975% longer.
Two of the wafer shades, GC4324 and GC4334, feature an Inveio ™ coating with improved wear resistance. The third grade, GC4344, produced with Zertivo ™ technology offers a very good edge safety thanks to an optimum adhesion of the coating on the substrate.
These three grades complete the range of grades for ISO P and ISO K materials and for a wide variety of applications:
• GC4324: Better Productivity in Stable Conditions
• GC4334: First choice in good to medium conditions
• GC4344: Excellent performance in harsh conditions
The new positioning of the shades facilitates selection.
The CoroDrill 880 range covers diameters from 12 to 84 mm (0.472-3.307 inches) as standard; The special offer allows to reach diameters up to 127 mm (5.078 inches). These drills make it possible to obtain holes with tolerances H12-13 of a depth up to five times the diameter.
