Sandvik Coromant's know-how and products are expected at the most important exhibition dedicated to composite materials
Saturday, February 28, 2015Description :
While demand for parts made from composite materials continues to increase in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, motor sports and energy, more and more machining shops are seeking support, Solutions. The specialist in cutting tools and tooling systems Sandvik Coromant will bring to JEC Europe a wealth of innovative products and experience gained over many years working with these high-tech materials.

The company boasts its international research center on the drilling and machining of Sheffield composites in the UK and its many centers of expertise in different countries. It also has a long experience in finding solutions for the challenges posed by the machining of composites.

The art of composites

It is no secret that the machining of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) presents many challenges, including tool life, productivity and quality control. This is why optimization of solutions and technical support for the machining of composites are essential.

Sandvik Coromant will be represented at JEC Europe by a team of composite specialists in yellow coats who will be pleased to discuss the development of tools, tailor-made solutions and applications. Visitors are invited to bring their parts or drawings for an initial review of potential machining solutions.

In the limelight

Innovations not to be missed on the Sandvik Coromant Smart Hub at JEC Europe include CoroMill® Plura brazed PCD milling cutters specifically designed for trimming, surface milling, groove machining and cutting operations in CFRPs. Based on a high-performance PCD grade for CFRPs, this range of tools offers a long service life and predictable wear patterns, which is essential for composites machining.

Solutions for drilling CFRPs will also be exposed, such as the CoroDrill® 452 drill which has been developed for drilling holes with tight tolerances in composites and laminated materials with metal layers. The low thrust geometry of this drill reduces the risk of delamination and burrs. The JEC Europe visitors will not miss the CoroDrill 854/856 carbide drill range designed for the drilling of quality holes in composite materials.

Vibration-assisted drilling

Visitors to the show will be able to follow on 10 March a special presentation which will take place at the Agora at 11 am. Mohamed Hammadi, composite applications manager at Sandvik Coromant, will explain, together with the technology partner of the company, Mitis, the benefits of drilling with vibration assistance.
