New Seco MDT heads for better vibration interchangeability during shooting operations
Monday, February 22, 2016Description :
Seco's new multi-directional turning heads (MDT) for use with the Steadyline® anti-vibration bar system are now equipped with Seco's latest GL connection. Used together, the GL connection and the Steadyline bar ensure exceptional precision and surface finish when grooving and turning. Thanks to these new MDT heads, machining is possible in applications with long overhangs or with a high risk of vibrations.
The very precise GL connection allows users to change MDT heads (or other GL heads) on the Steadyline bar quickly, easily and accurately. Once the bar is installed, the heads can be mounted and reassembled without re-setting the system. The quadrilobe conical interface of the patented GL connection has two positions to orient the cutting edges of the MDT boards up or down for effective chip control.
Seco's Steadyline system is a passive / dynamic vibration damping system that provides effective vibration control. "Passive" means that no energy is transmitted to the tool holder; "Dynamic" refers to the fact that the vibrations of the tool trigger the internal operation of the system. This type of system makes it possible to carry out conventional operations with long overhangs faster than with traditional tools, while reducing the force on the spindle and offering a high chip flow rate, good surface finishes and Increased tool life.
MDT heads also feature Seco's Jetstream Tooling® lubrication technology. Jetstream Tooling is a high-pressure watering system that effectively cools the cutting area to improve tool life, workpiece quality and productivity. The coolant is conveyed through channels through the tool to orifices extremely close to the cutting area.
