Sensors in direct reflection: new sensor LR-W from Keyence
Monday, February 22, 2016Description :
The new series of optical sensors of the LR-W series from Keyence reinforce the recently launched LR-T and LR-Z ranges. These full spectrum sensors integrate a white LED, which guarantees excellent accuracy and detection stability. With its extended range of optical sensors of the LR series, Keyence responds to a very wide variety of control applications from the simplest to the most complex: presence / absence, detection of marking, product differentiation, color control, etc.
Unlike traditional red light sensors, the new Keyence LR-W sensors integrate a high intensity white LED and thus exploit the entire spectrum of colors. Result: they can differentiate a greater variety of targets with great stability and reliability. This unique feature in the marketplace allows them to efficiently handle targets that vary slightly in color or appearance, or metal targets, shiny, dark, inclined, and so on.
The Keyence LR-W series sensors are also equipped with an automatic servo function optimizing the power and sensitivity of the sensor to improve detection stability. This eliminates the risk of light saturation on shiny parts. And detection is just as effective on very dark objects. Nothing escapes the sensors of the series LR-W which are also efficient on targets of rubber, black plastic or felt.
The sensors of the LR-W series are as varied as the angle and distance variations of the target. They are operational over a range from 30 mm to 500 mm. And the user can easily adjust the diameter of the spot light between 3.5 to 18 mm depending on the target to ensure optimum detection according to the requirements of the application. However, the sensors of the LR-W series offer an automatic adjustment function to free the user from the tedious parameterization phase. This function analyzes the color, brightness and surface condition of the target to determine the best detection conditions for the situation.
Three types of adjustment are available to the user: at one point, at two points for the detection of low-contrast control marks or by defining references. The reference adjustment mode allows you to record any variations in the appearance of the target occurring during the normal operation of the process so that the sensor is free of them. Thanks to this learning, it can in particular accept all colors in the spectrum defined between two references and reject all those that deviate from it. The reference points can be adjusted later as the process progresses.
The LR-W series sensors, equipped with a high visibility 7-segment display and integrated in a compact housing with an IP67 sealing index, complement the two ranges of Keyence laser sensors using a detection principle based on Distance measurement: The LR-Z Series sensors use laser triangulation technology, while the LR-T Series sensors use a time-of-flight measurement method. With the introduction of the new white LR-W Led sensors, Keyence has a comprehensive range of sensors that can effectively address a variety of detection and control applications.
